What is lip blush?

Lip blushing is a semi-permanent procedure which utilizes a tattooing tool to deposit pigment underneath the skin of your lips. The process focuses on altering lip color and shape to achieve the desired effect.

Lip Blushing Procedure

1

Cleaning the area

The are will be cleaned from any makeup or contaminants. Then, a numbing cream will be applied to the area to eliminate any discomfort during the procedure.
2

Shape & Color

While you are waiting for the numbing agent to take effect, this is usually when you will discuss tone and shape with your provider. The provider will make a sketch and await for your approval before beginning the tattoo process.
3

Pigmentation

Your provider will insert natural looking pigment into your skin using a tattooing tool. This process is done in multiple layers to ensure an even and natural looking tone.
4

Healing & Aftercare

The healing process is similar to that of a tattoo. There may be some redness and swelling initially, which can be treated with a cold compress. Take note that it’s best to let your lips air dry, so keeping bandages off them is recommended. While your lips are healing, they may begin to scab. This is normal, and picking the scabs is not recommended for best results. For relief and protection, use petroleum jelly. Much like a tattoo, it may be best to avoid vigorous exercise and direct sunlight for a few weeks as your lips are still healing. Your lips may still appear dark at this time, but know that the tone will fade and become more natural over time.

Lip Blushing FAQ

How long do results last?

In total, the process can take between 1 and 3 hours to complete, and results will last up to a few years. Think of all the money you’ll save on lip gloss!

Can I still wear lipstick?

Yes, you can. The procedure creates a natural, soft, and even tone, so lipstick can still be used to accentuate your lips. When you do decide to wear lipstick, it will appear normal, like the tattoo isn’t even there.

What color will my lips be?

You and your artist will discuss which colors suit you based on your natural lip color. Once your lips have healed, you may still enhance or change the color of your lips at anytime with conventional makeup. Directly after the procedure your lips will appear darker, but they will fade over time to achieve the desire effect.

How often will I need a touch-up?

Lip color requires frequent touch-ups compared to other permanent makeup procedures due to the fact that the lips metabolize the color rather quickly. It is recommended to get a touch-up every 1-3 years, depending on how your body retains the color.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Skin sensitivities and allergies are always taken into consideration on an individual assessment. The majority of clients with skin sensitivities or allergies are minor and eligible for tattooing, only resulting in a mild redness of the skin that subsides within an hour or two post-treatment.
